POSITION TYPE: Part Time
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Summer Counselors are responsible for the health,
safety, and well-being of the program participants, with an emphasis on the
care for and supervision of participants in specific afterschool groups. Summer
Counselors ensure safety and good behavior through positive class management
techniques, model desired behavior, and provide overall support to their
assigned participants during the summer camp activities. The Summer Counselors
report to the Summer Morning and Afternoon [AM & PM] Site Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
·
Communicate effectively with site staff and other hearing/non
ASL-speaking individuals and with deaf/hearing-impaired students who speak ASL
·
Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident
reports and daily attendance
·
Know, understand and implement ALL program procedures as appropriate
·
Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with all program
areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for participants’
safety and knowing their whereabouts at all times
·
Assist with snack and lunch distribution
·
Serve as a role model to the participants
·
Create a warm and welcoming environment
·
Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences
·
Report concerns, comments and feedback to Site Managers
·
Assist participants during activities and provide support to instructors
as needed
·
Facilitate and oversee free choice/free play activities
·
Ensure that the site is kept clean and organized
·
Chaperone field trips and/or special performances
QUALIFICATIONS
·
Must be able to communicate effectively with hearing and deaf
individuals
·
Must be conversationally proficient in American Sign Language
·
High School Diploma
·
A clear Level II Background Screening
·
First Aid and CPR Certification
·
Experience working with children of varied ages and abilities; and
familiar with specific needs of deaf / hearing-impaired
·
College course work in childcare, education, social work, psychology
preferred
·
Excellent interpersonal skills
·
Strong organization and problem solving skills
·
Strong judgment and decision-making ability
EMPLOYMENT DATES & SCHEDULE
June 13 - July 1, 2016
July 11 – July 29, 2016
Monday–Friday: 8AM - 6 PM / Morning Shift: 7:45am-12:45pm;
Afternoon Shift: 12:15pm-6:15pm
COMPENSATION
$15.00/hr.
